Dial-a-Cab with the 'Company'

Report and Pics by Ken Crawford (B40)

The new Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Howard, is a member of our Livery Company and was in fact the sponsoring Alderman in 1997 when the Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers was formed.
His family are the first to supply three successive generations of Lord Mayors, starting with Sir Seymour Howard in 1954 (his grandfather), continuing with Sir Edward Howard 1971 (his father) and then himself on November 11th 2000.
As well as being the 673rd Lord Mayor of the City of London, he is also the Chancellor of the Guildhall University (founded 1848) and Vice-Patron of the City University (founded 1894) and has chosen as his Charity, St. Batholomews Hospital. He hopes to raise around £9M for their Breast Screening Unit.
